 "So far..." 2010-03-23
By M. Rosenberg (CT)
So far, so good. With the grout blade, it did a fine job. I've used the Fein Multimaster many times and we all know of its proven track record, but the price is way out there. The Bosch seems to be up to par, and being cordless is an added plus.

 "very pleased" 2010-03-03
By John W. Orlandella
I have been looking at the multi-tools for quite a while. I chose the Bosh because they make very dependable tools and also because I prefer to work without a mess of cords under foot. I have used it to shave ceiling tiles with ease and also to trim the ceiling channels in place without having to pull every thing apart. If you need to trim an eight of an inch off sheet-rock, it will do it with no mess. I was able to cut away an old cabinet without undoing the drains and plumbing. I can cut hard to reach areas that could never be done with any other tool. This is not going to replace a saws-all and its not going to zip through steel and lumber like one but it will work in tight areas that no other tool will. A week after using mine I saw a cordless Rigid model for ten dollars more. It came with an interchangeable compact drill and an auto hammer. I would have bought that instead because of the compact power drill and because I have always wanted to try the Rigid products. However, I have no regrets about my purchase. It's the right tool for the job and a quality tool.

 "Initially dissapointed but Provantage service was good" 2010-01-22
By Brian Donner (Seattle, WA)
The PS50-2B was purchased new and within less than one hour of household use it quit. Just dead stopped. It was under warranty and after dealing with a very grumpy service associate at CPO Bosch who directed me to Bosch (I assume corporate customer service, CPO Bosch appears to be internet sales, I opted for a product replacement to get back to my project quickly. Well I received a factory reconditioned unit. I called Bosch again to see what there policy is on replacements "Dan" stated "... the majority of the time a person will receive a new replacement."

It may just be an fluke that my unit failed within the first hour of use but later the representitive Dan called back and offered a NEW replacement for tool which I accepted. So I guess that Bosch does want satisfied customers and are willing to dedicate the extra effort to follow through and please them

 "Keep out of the cold!" 2010-01-22
By K. Sevek (Lawrenceville, NJ)
I have every 12 volt lithium ion tool that Bosch makes, except for the metal shear. I leave the tools in my van when not in use. In the winter time, I have to charge every battery before using them. They loose their charge in the cold. The button on the side of this tool is handy, it lets you know how much power you have left. When my tools come in from the cold, the tool says I have full charge... after about 1 minute of use it says I have no power left, unless I have warm batteries. So my remedy is to take out all 4 of my chargers and all 8 of my batteries and start charging as soon as I pull them out in the morning. This is a very handy tool to have. I also have the corded, very expensive version ($400)made by the other company. this one is nice because you have the freedom of doing the same jobs without the cord (duh). I love it and will not complain about the cold batteries.

 "Very handy tool" 2010-01-06
By M. Ross (Orange, CA USA)
I got this tool a local big box store for significantly less than what is listed on Amazon, but thought a review would be helpful here. Honestly, I would give this five stars if the batteries had just a wee bit more juice.

Having said that, I really like this tool. Basic pros and cons:

Pros:

* Unique tool

* Well made

* Reasonable price

* Good accessories

* Cordless

* Excellent case

Cons:

* Battery life

This tool, as any similar oscillating tool from Fein, Dremel, and others, performs several unique jobs that many other tools cannot. Having had it only a few months, I am surprised at how often I find myself reaching for it. The plunge cut feature is awesome and really lets you get at things you otherwise wouldn't without damaging surrounding material. It is heavy for its size and feels well-made. The price is good, but would be better lower. (Isn't that always the case?) It comes with a useful assortment of accessories in a case that the tool probably doesn't deserve. (I've seen many pricier tools that come with a bag or no carrier at all) The blades that come with it have held up well- as always, you have to be careful what you cut and use the right blade for the material.

The major drawback is battery life. My experience has mirrored that of other users in that the batteries just don't last in this thing- Five to twelve minutes, depending on what I am doing. Is that long enough? It depends. I also regularly use Bosch's excellent little pocket drivers Bosch PS20-2A 12-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Pocket Driver with 2 Batteries so I've got extra batteries on hand, and the charger does a good job of recharging the batteries quickly. I use this tool for many things, but not hours at a time. If I needed to undercut all the door frames in a house to install flooring, for example, I would be using my Crane saw instead, or similar, and not an oscillating tool, even the Fein.

I've used the Fein, and it is terrific- a well made, precision tool. But I chose the Bosch based on its portability, and that's nice when you are in a crawl space or up on a ladder, even if I do have to take along a spare battery or two. This tool isn't meant to replace a circular saw, grinder, or jigsaw- this tool fits nicely in the niche for which it is meant.

For me, the positives of portability and relative lightness of this tool outweigh the drawback of having to change batteries frequently. I recommend this tool, even for frequent use. If you envision yourself using it for hours at a time, consider a corded oscillating tool.
